Commercial Software- The software industry comprises businesses involved in the development, maintenance and publication of computer software.

CSS [Cascading Style Sheets]- Web page derived from multiple sources with a defined order of precedence.

Freeware- Software that is provided without charge.

Groupware- Software that can be used by a group of people who are working on the same information but may be distributed in space.

PDF [Portal Digital Format]- Lists other pages on the Web where you can find additional information.

Portal- Portal is generally synonymous with gateway, for a World Wide Web site that is or proposes to be a major starting site for users.

Public Domain- Openly available to everyone and not subject to copyright protection.

Shareware- Software that is available free of charge; may be distributed for evaluation with a fee requested for additional features or a manual etc.

Storyboard- A panel or series of panels of rough sketches outlining the scene sequence and major changes of action or plot in a production to be.

Template- A model or standard for making comparisons.

Vortal- This lists other pages on the Web where you can find additional information.

DNS Server- (Domian Name System) The DNS translates Internet domain and host names to IP addresses.


Intranet- An intranet is a private network that is contained within an enterprise. It may consist of many interlinked local area networks.


Multimedia-Information in more than one form. It includes the use of text, audio, graphics, animation and full-motion video.


Optimize- To allocate such things as resources or capital as efficiently as possible.
Packets-A packet is one unit of binary data capable of being routed through a computer network.



Secured Site- Computer facility equipped with secure servers to provide secure exchange of data.


Server- A erver is a computer that provides services used by other computers.
Site- You can create a site definition by copying and modifying an existing site definition.
TCP/IP- (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) It's the basic communication language or protocol of the Internet.


WYSIWYG- "What you see is what you get"

Broken Link/Broken Graphic- When an image doesn't load, and instead you see the alt text or some generic icon shapes.


Case Sensitive- Your username and/or password must have the proper case or you will be unable to log in.


Client- A client is an application or system that accesses a remote service on another computer system, known as a server.


Compression- Data compression or source coding is the process of encoding information using fewer bits.
Copyright- A written document that is literary, or written!


Home Page- The main page of a website.


Host- A computer containing data or programs that another computer can access by means of a network or modem.

Post- Power On Self Test is the initial set of diagnostic tests performed by the computer when powered on.

Text Editor/HTML Writer- A text editor that also knows how to do the HTML .... a numbered list, or a definition list, HTML Writer is up to the job.

Web Page Editor- A software application for creating web pages, although the HTML markup of a web page can be written with any text editor.

.exe: It's short for executable and is the extension for an application on Win 32 or .NETplatforms.
.gif: Short for graphics Interchange Format is a file format for storing graphical images with many colors!
.jpg: The file extension that identifies files in the joint photographic experts group (JPEG) format.
.txt: Actual structure of words in a piece of writing; wording in some type of document.
.zip: Zipping is the act of packaging a set of files into a single file or archive that is called a zip file. Usually, the files in a zip file are compressed so that they take up less space in storage or take less time to send to someone.
.com: COM is the original name of the serial port interface on IBM PC-compatible computers.
Hexadecimal:The base 16 numbering system is used as a shorthand for representing binary numbers.
Keyword: A word used as a reference point for finding other words or information.
Tag: Used for an file extension on the computers server.
Title Bar: An area at the top of a window that contains the name of the file or application in the window.

IP Address: Numeric address of an online internet address
Domain Name: Sequence of alphabetical characters that specifies a gorup of online resources.
Bandwidth: Capacity for data transfer of electronic communication system.
Download: The act or instance of downloading something.
ISP: Internet Service Provider
Connect Time: Amount of time that it takes to connect the server to the circuit.
HTML: (Hyper Text Mark-up Language) A mark-up language that is used to create documents using the world wide web including texts, graphics, sound, video, & hyperlinks.
Head: One of a number.
Body: The main part of a literary or journalistic work.
